At Home Treatment and Assessment

Respiratory Physiotherapy

Neuromuscular conditions can affect breathing, making it harder to clear mucus, maintain lung capacity, and keep the airways healthy. Weak breathing and coughing muscles, chest wall changes such as scoliosis, and throat muscle weakness (bulbar dysfunction) can all contribute to frequent chest infections and reduced quality of life.

At Neurolab Physiotherapy, we monitor breathing function closely and provide early strategies to support respiratory health. This includes measuring cough strength, diaphragm function, and lung capacity over time, and offering treatments to reduce chest infections, avoid hospital admissions, and improve day-to-day wellbeing.

Treatment and Management

Everyone’s needs are different, what works for one person may not be the best option for another.

At Neurolab Physiotherapy, we assess your needs and prescribe the right interventions to support you.

If you’ve recently left hospital with a list of equipment or devices and aren’t sure where to begin, we can help with assessment, ordering, set-up, and funding applications.

Our Physiotherapy treatment may include:

  • Lung volume recruitment to assist in taking a large breath in and improves cough strength

  • Suctioning for secretion removal

  • Cough assist devices to increase cough strength

  • Positioning to improve air entry into the lungs

  • Inspiratory Muscle Training to strengthen the diaphragm

  • Manual cough to strengthen a weak cough

  • Recommendations on nebuliser therapies and management of oral secretions

  • Airvo humidification to put warmth and moisture back into the lungs

  • Airway Clearance Devices

  • Manual techniques for shifting phlegm in the lungs (percussions, vibrations, oscillations)
